Serious Paper

When I was shopping for school I kept thinking of this skit from Gilmore Girls.
(But I ended up getting the pretty stuff)
Rory and Lorelai are school shopping for Rory.
S1E4 (1 of my favorite espisodes)

RORY: Ok [puts out a list] I need legal pads,
LORELAI: Got it.
RORY: Tons of pens,
LORELAI: Right.
RORY: Some number 2 pencils, three highlighters, an eraser, a staple remover and a peachy folder.
LORELAI: You need 3 highlighters?
RORY: Yes.
LORELAI: Three?
RORY: Yes.
LORELAI: That’s a very random number.
RORY: Three is not a random number.
LORELAI: No but I mean how did you get to the number 3?
RORY: One dries up, one gets lost, I have one left.
LORELAI: You have really thought this out.
RORY: Yes, I have.
LORELAI: What came first - the chicken or the egg.
RORY: Can we get back to this list please.
LORELAI: Alright. Ooh, hey, legal pads.
RORY: No. Those are purple.
LORELAI: Yes, purple is festive.
RORY: I can’t have purple
LORELAI: Yes you can, they’re on sale.
RORY: I’m going to a serious school now, I need serious paper.
LORELAI: Paper is paper.
RORY: Not at Chilton.
LORELAI: Alright, fine. Here is your serious paper. [Picking up yellow]
RORY: Thank you.
LORELAI: Ooh and here are you somber highlighters, your maudlin pencils, your manic-depressive pens.
RORY: Mom
LORELAI: Now these erasers are on lithium so they may seem cheerful but we actually caught them trying to shove themselves in the pencil sharpener earlier.
RORY: I’m going home now.
LORELAI: No wait! We’re going to stage an intervention with the neon post-its and make them give up their wacky crazy ways.
RORY: You’re never coming shopping with me again.

The "never coming shopping with me again" part is usually how the kids and I end up. :P

Snow White and Her Loot

Shabbat Shalom

Jehovah will decree for you the blessing on your stores of supply and every undertaking of yours, and he will certainly bless you in the land that Jehovah your God is giving you.
Deuteronomy 28:8

BIG BIG News!

Well about 100 years ago (well 23 to be exact) I went to cosmo school and I did complete it but I didn't take my state boards (I have about 3 dozen reasons why not). One is that I wasn't that into hair but I was more into the makeup and skin aspects of cosmotology (which they really don't go into too much detail) and I had noooo idea that you could practice just those things - what you don't have to do hair or nails - well that's just crazy! Yes!! I was that niave and maybe in some aspects I still am. But I did promise I would finish and that is what I did. A promise is a promise!! Anyhow, fast forward my life to the present and by the grace of Jehovah given an opportunity to go to Aesthetician School!! I am soo nerve racked but very excited too. All the what if's keep creeping up. What if: the old hands can't hold up, you fail anatomy, or chemistry, aren't you too old for this kind of change, who will keep the home clean when you are at school, who will cook the meals during the week, are you sure you want to do this much homework, don't forget the projects and worse what if you fail! Then what?! Gee all valid concerns and the only answer that I have is that if Jehovah God in his great wisdom did not think I could do this and do this well, he would have never given me this opportunity. So starting June 29, 2010 I'm off to school and with that start my new label "School Daze" because more than likely I will be in a daze for the next 8 months. LOL So hopefully I'll will be able to keep up on my regular posting and new stuff such as projects that I need to submit. As for my home and hearth my wonderful Mr. will be helping out (like always-I can not tell you what a blessing this man has been in my life) and I think he is more excited about this new adventure than I am. That is ... until wax class. :-D

Getting Ready For Summer

For some people getting ready for summer means cute clothes, cool colors and tanned skin. And I guess I am no exceptions. This week I am going with this bright pink polish and I ammm looooving iiit. It is "Free Fall" from Pure Ice which I purchased at the Walmart and costed just a few bucks. Again, if it is a color that you are going to wear constantly then you can splurge on the more expensive brand, if not then cheaper is always better. One of my biggest pet peeves (and yes there are A LOT!!) is the farmer's tan with ghost legs(which I am also sporting LOL)People please! I'm begging you! STOP the atrocity!! There are plenty of self tanners that can remedy this problem. I usually use L'Oreal's "Sublime" and I really do like it but this time I am using Banana Boat's "Summer Color" in Deep Dark Color. Now a few tricks that you can do in order to get an even color are: One, is to exfoliate. If you do not take off the dead layer of skin sitting on the epidermis before applying the color, in a day or so, you will start to streak because the color would have attached itself to the dead skin. I use a few things depending on the condition of my skin - either I do dry brushing or I use the apricot scrub (yes the stuff for the face and NEVER EVER use it on your face!! Use a deeper foundation and bronzer - don't apply tanner as it may clog pores. And if you use acne products-the salicylic acid exfoliates the skin and your color won't hold). Two, is do not apply lotion or oil before applying color - the color won't stick to the skin if you do this. Three, don't apply color to the elbows, knees or ankles if you do thoughs areas will turn a funny orangey-brown. You apply the color to the area above and below and then feather towards these areas. Fourth, the more olive the skin the greener the tanner should be. If you have olive skin, which I do, "Dark Sensation" by Sun works really well. Fifth, is not to over tan - using it every third day should be fine any closer that then you run the risk of the tanner getting too dark but it doesn't get bronzey dark it gets orangey dark and that is what we are not trying to achieve. Always remember to keep the skin moisturized between salt, chlorine and summer heat, your skin will get dried out. And if this happens the skin will flake and it will start to streak. So keep the skin moisturized!!!

Happy Father's Day!!

The crown of old men is the grandsons and the beauty of sons is their fathers.
Proverbs 17:6
Observe, O my son, the commandment of your father, and do not forsake the law of you mother. Tie them upon your heart constantly, bind them upon your throat. When you walk about, it will lead you; when you lie down it will stand guard over you; and when you have waked up, it itself will make you its concern.
Proverbs 6:20-22
Forever upon ever your love and devotion to your family has shaped generations. This is one of a million reasons that we are so blessed to have you in our lives.
Happy Father's Day, My Love.

Shabbat Shalom

Acquire wisdom, acquire understanding. Do not forget, and do not turn aside from the sayings of my mouth. Do not leave it, and it will keep you. Love it, and it will safegaurd you. Wisdom is the prime thing. Acquire widsom; and with all that you acquire, acquire understanding.
Proverbs 4:5-7

French Bread - The American Way

I have finaly gotten around to making bread this week and have decided to make a loaf of french bread. I got the recipe from the back of a Red Star Quick Rise yeast pack - it is recipe #9. But I did use half and half on un-bleached flour and whole wheat so it really didn't rise - I should have used 1/2 of the other pack but the flavor was good and I'm sure it'll make great toast or bread crumbs. Either way nothing goes to waste here.
It was a bit weird for me to use the mixer - rather than by hand.

Lunch is ready!!

Movie Hoarding (Long)

There are two movies that I am hoarding from Netflix now - I don't mean to but there is something within these movies that says keep me one more day and really watch me because I am going to show you something great. So I do :D

We will start with "The Blindside". OK - so to me this movie was a less dramatic version of "Rudy" (great movie go rent it!) Not less serious but not as heavy - "Rudy" had a sad heaviness about it. But "The Blindside" even though it has sad moments (and yes I cried) it is about the power of not giving up...on yourself or someone else. So you come out .. uplifted!

When you watch the movie (or read the book) there are 100 different times when Michael Oher could have said "forget you people and stupid your rules - I'm outta here" and just left and gone off and hung out at some nobody's couch and lived his life in quiet-misery. But he didn't - he stuck thru it - thru every practice, every class, and all the hours getting tutored (and there were ALOT) Wow - that is all I think when I watch this movie. Just -Wow!
I really liked Tim McGraw in this movie. Shhh don't tell anyone. LOL The scene when LeAnne calls the coach during a game and then he hangs up - she is like he hung up on me and Sean (with a straight face) was like no the call must have dropped - and a new classic line is born. These are two independent people that use each other as support but not a crutch. Never depending on the other to define whom they are as individuals. Which trickles to the children - there isn't any over coddling - they support without being over the top and even with Michael - they support him with out babying him about his situation. And Sandra B brought the out part in every mother - the part of "what if that was my child". You can see it with every patience sigh and every delicate move with Michael.

There are a few scenes: when LeAnne is showing Michael his room and she is going on about hideous futons and not allowing it in my house (she is a decorator and they see things aesthetically) and Michael responds that he never had a bed of his own. I cried - never had his own bed. Wow moment. LeAnne goes to her room - I can just imagine what she was thinking....here I am going on about a futon in a careless way and not thinking that someone else somewhere doesn't have what I consider a basic home item and how much that must of meant to him. The next scene is the one above...they are at a book store and the kids are like remember Mom when you read us this book and this one and LeAnne was Michael did your Mom ever read either of these books to you and the way he shook his head - she knew...she knew that he might not have ever been read to and how there isn't anything as beautiful as a bedtime story. The thing about this movie is that you were waiting for something that never came - the kids rolling their eyes or their friends saying something snotty or someone being rude and say well did your mom/family do with you or when seated at a restaurant and someone saying that guy can't be here but there wasn't anything. If people were thinking something - they kept it to themselves. As it should be.

Great movie! Go rent it - you will be a better person for watching it!!

Next movie is "It's Complicated". Wow what a cute movie (personally I liked "Something's Gotta Give" better but my Mr. found this one to be much much funnier) Either way - a must watch. Alec and Meryl are good together and I loooooved Steve Martin. It's is a bit of a cliche' movie a 20 year marriage breaks up because the husband has an affair with a 20 something and then marries her but now that it has been 10 after the divorce all the "what ifs" in life creep up. The kids in this movie are just too pretty - they all could be models. The son-in-law to be was sooo funny.  I like this movie so much that I've been obsessively listening to "History Repeating" by the talented Ms Shirley Bassey with the Propellerheads. Great song!!

Besides the OMG moments. The best parts of this film is the set. It is soooo beautifully done - I want to move to Santa Barbara even though the interior was shot in a sound stage in Brooklyn.

Super cool - super casual. I want to live here!!Clean lines but not stark - cute but not cutsey.
And OMG! The best part - her shop!!!!

This is my idea of a perfect date - quiet table for 2 please  : D

Shabbat Shalom

And it must occur that if you will without fail listen to the voice of Jehovah your God by bieng careful to do all his commandments that I am commanding you today, Jehovah your God will certainly put you high above all other nations of the earth. And all these blessings must come upon you and overtake you, because you keep listening to the voice of Jehovah your God.
