"The Voice"

Everyone ... this is my amazing friend Amy
(or who is also known as - A.J.).

*I have tried writing this post like 1 trillion times since Saturday (some funny - some serious) and I just can not express how proud I am of her wonderful accomplishments - so this post is what it is and I hope I do her justice. I know some might say that might my over adulations are unwarranted but I know I could not do what she does and still stay centered - I would breakdown and whine constantly. She is like the God Father, calm and placid and one NOT to be trifled with, while I am Joe Pesci in Goodfellas, unstable and unpredictable - especially under extreme circumstances such as witnessing abuse. So if you have someone in your life that are civil servants, please give them a little credit for how hard their job is.*

I have known this fantastic person for about 11 years now and I can say that she is hands down one of the greatest people I have ever gotten the pleasure to meet. She is truely a genuinely nice person - inside and out.  A few years ago she started to volunteer a few hours a week at the local humane society, which led to working there, which led to a great opportunity to be part of the teams  for the shows 'Animal Planet Heroes: Phoenix' and 'Animal Cops Phoenix' and when Hurricane Katrina devestated New Orleans - Amy took her experience there to help those who were scarred and abandoned and when she returned home put those experiences in a book called Hurricane Katrina Animal Rescue: A Story Buried Deep. And WOW - she has an amazing way of capturing the moments there, some are a bit disturbing but at times you find yourself full of hope. I totally recommend reading this book and even to share it with your teens, also known as the "all about me stage". It can help remind us the dramatic power a few individuals have and how small choices we make now evolve to become the experiences we need in the future. Here are some excerpts:

"Neighborhoods in Louisiana were transformed into giant science experiments gone terribly wrong. Dark green and black mold covered the inside of homes like Petri dishes labled "hazerdous". In the sunlight, these organisms appeared to be breathing, mating and multiplying right before my eyes."

"Animals inside these flood zones were starving and struggling to find food, so we knew the smell of delicious meat hitting the air would snap his attention towards us. Normally in the city, we wouldn't have to be this aware of feeding an animal, but this wasn't the city. After almost a month of roaming the streets and being locked in houses, these neighborhoods became primal hunting grounds for animals."

"So much time was spent in the field listening for any sound an animal might make. We drove down streets with our windows open, barking and meowing in hopes our cries would connect with theirs. At times, we couldn't locate where the sounds were coming from, so we'd jump out of the truck and place bags of food and bowls of water along the sidewalks; this was later known as a "Louisiana Food Drop."

Remember people - spay and neuter your pets - it's the responsible thing to do. For more information regarding volunteer work or being a foster parent contact your nearest animal shelter for list of legitimate places.

Christmas Gifts

A belated post I know - please forgive me but
I wanted to share a couple of items I made for a select few (with hand made gifts I only give to those who will geniunely enjoy the gift and two I only make for a few because of time constrains - this way the gift never feels like it was intrusive or a burden.) I am just so elated on how great everything came out.
I made a lap blanket for my boss (which I was so excited about that I forgot to take a picture) =o I made it with acrylic yarn, for easy cleaning, it is tan with color flecks in it - I alternated single crochet and double crochet all the way across using a 'P' hook. It came out so pretty that I am thinking of making it for my mom-n-law for her birthday (shhh don't tell her) ; D

Halloween Happenings

First I would like to say that I work with some pretty awesome people - truely I do. Our Halloween party at work - which was on Saturday - was a smashing success. We had TONS of food and some people dressed up in some super cute costumes - Flight Attendent, Zombie Cheerleading Doll, Bunny, Tinkerbell, Mad Hatter, Witch, Kat Von D, Barbie, Rock-a-Billy, 1950's Teen, Gold Digger and a Clown. (It is hard to do services in a costume so some girls opted not to wear one but they knew how to lay out a fabulous spread!)  I could not have had a better time and our clients were so tickled to see us all dressed up. If you remember I did want to be the White Queen but I had such a hard time finding a costume! Grrr!! And if I planned my time better I might have been able to make the costume (but I didn't) and in reality I'd rather spend my money on extra classes anyhow - so I went as a 1950's Housewife with white gloves and pearls! Everyone was calling be by my 50's name "Betty" LOL It was sooo much fun and latter my Mr and I went out to jazz club and I stayed dressed the whole time (they must get weirdos like me there all the time cuz nobody flinched) *Sorry I didn't get better pictures - I used my phone since I was in a panic about forgetting something, I ran out without my camera - funny how often I do that*

Me and the beautiful Mrs Casey

Yummy *o*
2 Tables FULL of food!!

Ms Brandi and myself

The following day was Halloween and our Princess with her Main Man came over about 10ish to carve pumpkins and watch scarry movies (The Orphan (not all that scarry but a good twist at the end) and Chucky (a classic) So while my Mr is setting up the TV outside - "we" children started to pickout our templates and carve the pumpkins - Princess did a cat with a full moon, her Main Man did a bat, Prince did a weird Jack-o-lantern and I did an owl on a branch. Our day went smoothly and lunch was delicious (cuz I didn't make it :p ) Roasted pumpkin seeds are the best! The kids went home about 2ish  (they wanted to go home and get dressed to pass out candy. It is a "deep breath" moment when your kid wants to incorporate their own traditions.) The rest of the day was spent cuddled next to my Mr. watching movies. Yup! A beautifully blissful day - just the way I like it ;D

B-Day Gifts

I will start by stating that I have such dear friends. This year I announced to those around me that I do not wish for any birthday gifts. All I wish for is to be blessed. You know "I wish all the blessing from Heaven above to be with you and yours." kind of blessing. Each one to be unique and special - something that the giver of the blessing has to put thought into. Well almost everybody listened. I got cards or gift cards. But from one friend I got something that ... well, every time I see it will remind me of how blessed I really am. She says she got me these items before I announce my wish. What else will be the prefect gift for me but....dragonflies.

Happy B-D Heather!

A birthday brownie and fruit for a few co-workers  ;p  Yum

I wanted to do something special for Heather for her 25th b-d -- so she allowed me to apply her makeup (during lunch of course) which is more of a gift to me than to her. Heather is one of the greatest people I know and I feel very blessed to know her. I hope that when my little gem turns 25 she is 1/10th the person Heather is. Heather likes mineral makeup - since other makeup irritate her skin - so we used Jane Iredale. And as you can see she looks great. Happy B-D again Heather! May God bless all your footsteps.

Congrats Danielle!

Sweet Danielle - getting her award!

Clocking out for the last time  - a bittersweet moment.

Like all students that graduate - the last walk out the door.
No more white scrubs, laundry duty, projects or tests -
just the sweet anticipation of what lies ahead.
Congrats!  I know your future will be bright Danielle.

Congrats Patsy and Angela!

I have some dear friends (whom are like family) graduate this past Friday from aesthetic school. I am soooooo proud of them. I got to take some pics of their ceremony and after party.

Watching the faces of the grads during the speeches just made me flash forward - this May there will be 3 graduations (our son, my step-daughter, and our nephew) - with their future sprawled ahead of them I wonder what paths they will take.

Patsy, Ms C & Angela

Patsy & Angela compliment each other like pink & purple. They are two of the nicest ladies I know - they are soooo sweet and are very skilled at their craft. I know that they are going to be great technicians.

Ms C is one of the funniest & smartest people I know. I don't mean a little smart - I mean "Wow! You are sooo smart!!"

The best party about any party. THE FOOD!!!!
